    Statement of Overall Objectives

    NYSED School Attendance

School attendance is both a right and a responsibility.  The School District is an active partner with students and parents in the task of ensuring that all students meet or exceed the New York State Learning Standards.  Because the District recognizes that consistent school attendance, academic success and school completion have a positive correlation; the School District will develop, review and, if necessary, revise a Comprehensive Student Attendance Policy to meet the following objectives:  The goal of school attendance policies and programs is to encourage students to come to school ready to learn.  Some of the objectives of attendance taking are:

    • To know the whereabouts of every student for safety and other reasons.
    • To determine the Districts average daily attendance for state aid reimbursement.
    • To verify that individual students are complying with education law in relation to compulsory attendance.
    • To identify individual and group attendance patterns in order to provide attendance improvement programs and services.
    • To raise student achievement to higher levels by encouraging regular attendance.
  • New York State law requires a physical exam within the last 12 months for students in:

    • Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grades 1, 3, and 5

    • All new students

Physicals must be dated within the previous school year  and submitted to the Health Office.

  • Call the Health Office at 631-267-3572 before 8:10 AM, or Email: dvivas@aufsd.org if your child will be absent.

    • Immunization records are kept on file.

    • Families will be contacted if immunizations do not meet NYS requirements.

    • Free immunizations are available through the Suffolk County Department of Health (631-854-0222).

    • Help with medical or dental insurance is available through the East Hampton Health Care Foundation (631-329-2425).

    • A Medication Administration Form signed by a physician is required for any medication given during school hours.

    • Parents/guardians must deliver medications and forms to the Health Office on the first day of school.

    • Do not send medication to school with your child.

  • Students in mandated grades ((Pre-K, Kindergarten, First, Third and Fifth) and new entrants must also submit a Dental Certificate for an exam completed within the last year (September 2024 – September 2025).

    • Free or low-cost dental provider information is available through the Health Office.
